Using VLeBooks

About VLeBooks

Using the VLeBooks website, all pupils can benefit from having access to a large selection of electronic books, including textbooks and fiction, free of charge. These "ebooks" can be read on the website itself or copies can be borrowed in the form of a temporary download to a PC, ebook reader, or an Android or iOS-powered tablet/smartphone.

When you've found a book that you would like to read, click its cover. A page is displayed (figure 2) providing details about the book that you have chosen. You then select how you'd like to read it using the buttons to the right of the book jacket image:

Download lets you "borrow" a copy of the book for up to two weeks for reading offline on your computer, eBook reader (excluding the Amazon Kindle) or Android or iOS-powered tablet or smartphone.

The online viewer (shown in figure 3) is laid out as follows:

1 - Table of Contents You can skip to a particular chapter by selecting it from this list.

2 - Search Search the whole book for words or phrases, or check the dictionary for spelling and example phrases.

3 - Notes Click on a saved note to view it and go to its page

4 - Navigation Scroll through pages or enter a page number.

5 - Book Pane Your selected ebook's pages are displayed here.

6 - Options Share what you're reading, share your notes, copy, and print up to 10% of a book's content.

7 - Zoom and Colour There are five zoom levels for each page to choose from. You can also use the colour wheel to change the page tint.

8 - Add Notes Write notes on any page or edit your saved notes.

Borrowing Books

In order to download a book for up to two weeks to your computer, eBook reader or tablet/smartphone, you need to sign up for a free Adobe ID using a valid email address. Your Adobe ID comprises of an ID (the email address that you use when signing up) and a password. It allows you to download available ebooks and view them on up to 6 separate devices. When the loan period is over, the books expire automatically and can be removed from your device.

If you already have an Adobe ID, you do not need to create a new one.

Signing Up for an Adobe ID

1. On a computer with an internet connection, visit www.adobe.com and select "Sign in to My Adobe" in the top right-hand corner of the home page.

2. Underneath the yellow Sign in button, click the "Don't have an Adobe ID?" link.

3. Complete the required fields (name, country, email address) and enter a new password for your Adobe ID account. Make sure that you check the box to accept the terms of use and click Create if you wish to proceed.

It is highly recommended not to use the same password you use to check your emails with.

4. An Adobe ID has been created and you can now sign out of Adobe's website.
