Back At The Polls, And These Election Candidates Are Equally Determined

The victorious Reynolds Academy House Captains are (l-r) Owen Pearce (Eagles), Sophie Hammonds (Sharks), Lola Butters (Dragons) and Amelia Capes (Lions).

With all the drama surrounding last month's General Election now over, Reynolds Academy pupils were more than ready to play their part in the electoral process as they went to the polls to choose new House Captains.

The candidates involved had to be nominated by their classmates, and deliver their own campaign speeches before pupils went to the ballot box to decide who would win.

Ben Holmes, Reynolds Academy Year 5 Teacher, said: "To coincide with last month's General Election, children have participated in a polling station and voted for their House Captain representatives. The process teaches them the wider skills and rules of democracy and relates to the curriculum they are currently studying."

Newly-elected House Captain Lola Butters said she "thoroughly enjoyed" the election process. "I look forward to representing my class this year," she said.

Maddison Wressell, Francesca Norman, Danielle Owens, Georgia Curtis and Josh Rehfeld vote in the election for House Captains at the "Polling Station."
