Reynolds Academy children were invited to witness the official opening of the new Suggitt's Lane Bridge, which replaces the original crossing closed three years ago due to safety measures.

Residents, councillors and MPs have been campaigning to have the area reopened to allow easier access to the North Promenade at Cleethorpes. Residents have been using the nearby Fuller Street bridge whilst the new overpass was being built, but it has limited to no access for those with bikes or in a wheelchair.

This new £3.1-million structure has been funded by Network Rail (£2m) and the Department of Transport (£1.6m) to help provide a more accessible route to the seaside resort. MP for Cleethorpes, Martin Vickers has been a figure-head for the campaign and was supported by Prime Minister Boris Johnson when he visited the resort.

Rebecca Scott, Reynolds Academy Principal, said: “We are proud to have been invited along to the opening of the new bridge which will make things much easier for people to access the North Prom.”

The new bridge to the seafront is now open. Campaigners, civic dignitaries and Reynolds Academy children were at the ceremony.
